The 28 reasons I love her

Today is my older sisters birthday. I wont tell you how old she is turning but i will say the 28 reasons i love that girl.

1. She smart

2. Shes a good listener and my very own personal therapist

3. She is a great mother

4. She was a good debater in high school and when i joined the debate team she wrote all my speeches. . people thought i was smart. .if they only knew.

5. She never told my parents that I was the one that broke her finger on Christmas Eve.

6. She has always had great hair.

7. Even though she doesn't like pets she will also listen to me talk about my dumb dog.

8. She let me borrow her clothes as kids. (okay so i know she didn't let me borrow them, but she didn't get that angry when she found out i was wearing them.)

9. She helps crazy drug addict women. I couldn't do it, I'd punch them.

10. She has more patience then i could ever dream of.

11. She posts diligently on her blog and i love to follow her life.

12. She likes CRAZY fabric!

13. She is an excellent knitter and made me the most wonderful scarf and gloves

14. She, i think is the only person, that has never criticized me about my horrible spelling

15. She is a good example and has been my whole life

16. She gives me cool presents

17. She can laugh when things get a little rough

18. She is a little more uncoordinated as me so when i fall up the stairs i don't feel as silly

19. She let me hold her baby. . i know sounds weird but there's a story to it.

20. She lets me watch her kids, even after i let Sam play with scissors

21. She is a good cook

22. She will sneak out with me and then laugh for hour about it. (I still don't think grandma knows.) :)

23. She was the only one that didn't get mad at me for cutting off all my hair right before her wedding

24. She totally passed her social work exam on the first try.

25. She watches the same stupid movies I do

26. Shes a really good photographer

27. She likes to play games

28. But most of all she is my sister and I love her.

Crafty People

For Memorial Day we went to visit my grandparents in Albuquerque. It was a good visit. Steve was able to make pens all weekend and my grandma took me to the fabric store. She sure knows how to win my heart. I've also almost finished the "replacement" quilt. It turned out pretty cute . . now which one to send. I'll post pictures when its done, hopefully tomorrow.

Look at all this new fabric. Now to decide what to do with it.

Dilemma

I have a friend who is having a baby and i did the traditional "Nicole" gift. . .a baby quilt. The only problem is I'm in love with this quilt and i don't want to give it as a gift. Oh the dilemma. .what to do. I think I'm going to make another quilt to send. Its a fairly small quilt, i just love the colors, the swirls and the fancy backing.

This is the back of the quilt. I just love the pieced back. I've been trying to use up all my scraps when I quilt and use all the material I buy. The only thing i can think is wrong with this quilt is its mostly cream. . .what was a thinking a cream baby quilt. . .oh well.

Another Day

Today outside my window. . .Its slightly overcast, wonder if its going to rain. Here is crossing my fingers.

I am thinking about. . . how sore my legs are for the gym today.

I am thankful for. . .my mom. Its mothers day this week and I've been thinking about her and missing her a lot

I am wearing. . . Jeans and a tee, is there really something else you should wear?

I am reading. . .Nothing at the moment, any good suggestions?

I am hearing. . .sonic booms. Okay so not at this very moment but it sounds like they are doing some type of training today.

A few plans for the rest of the week. . . Get mothers day cards out, try a new recipe, finish a quilt top. .(hope i get that done) and last but the longest job of all. . .do all the wash in the house.

I need to remember. . . to have a more positive attitude about some of the changes in my life.

And as a quick side note. . here another picture of the darn dog. He sleeps in the most uncomfortable positions. And i know mom someday there will be a kid and you wont have to look at the dog. . but hes so cute!

Firsts

About six years ago, right after I was married, I became unemployed. I sat at home most of the days bored and quite depressed. It was a difficult time to find a job and I was having a really hard finding one. I was constantly over at my moms house telling her how bored I was. One day she suggested that I find a hobby. (I think she was tired of me ALWAYS being over there.) I told her that I always wanted to know how to quilt. She said that was a "great hobby" and took me down to the local fabric store and bought me my very first sewing machine. It was a no name store brand that had very little function other then a straight stitch. For all I knew it was a great sewing machine and I quickly started to work on a quilt.

No lessons, nobody showing me what to do, just me and my machine and cheap fabric from Wal-mart. This was the quilt that i made. It has 1/2 inch seam allowances, nothing was squared and overall it was a total mess. After finishing the top i tucked it away and set my sights on other quilt projects. This was a quilt I didn't think I was ever going to finish.

As time went on this was the top that haunted me, always wanting to finish but never knowing quite how to quilt it and always feeling upset about the quality of the work. After a short time here in Alamo I found that a local quilt shop would let you rent the long arm quilting machine and frame on a day to day basis. Not knowing how my first quilt would turn out I searched for a quilt top that I didn't mind if it became ruined. This was the top I pulled out.

After 6 years this unfinished project is finally done, and I'm surprised and slightly pleased with the results. It now Steve's favorite quit and i can say its finally finished.
